Lines

Matt asked me tonight what the lines on my face were about. "Mom, what's THAT!", pointing between my eyebrows. He also noticed the crows feet. I explained that women get more pronounced frown and laugh lines as they get older. He said, "What do men get? Fight lines? Bravery lines?"

I thought that was kinda clever.

Nerds

This morning Matt and I were talking about summer camps and what he's interested in doing this year. He said he doesn't want to go to the Y again. I tossed out a few different topics that might appeal to him, one of them being robotics. He said he'd be really interested in going to a robotics camp if we can find one.

There was a segment on WQED the other night about a local robotics company, so I said, "Hey let me show you this video. It's about two guys from CMU who started a company that makes toy robots." He said, "Are they nerds?" I laughed because he's never used that word before, but I said, "Yes, probably." He said, "Oh good, because I associate myself as being a nerd."

Overheard

Matt's teacher sent a note reminding him to bring an item or picture of something that starts with A to Show and Tell tomorrow. I asked, "What do you want to do for A day, Matt?" He replied: "Be absent. It starts with A so it should count."

An old favorite

I originally posted this Q&A in January 2008 and thought it would be fun to revisit the questions today. Let's see...

Matt:

What are you good at doing? Karate.
If you had ten dollars, how would you spend it? I'd spend it on toys.
What are you afraid of? The only thing I’m afraid of is NOTHING!
Who are your friends? Michael, Marissa, my mom, my dad, Jake, my toys, Eli, Caleb, Grandma, Grandpa, Grammie, Grampie, Evan, Bailey, Cailyn, and myself.
What is important to you? My little baby doll. And also my mom.
What is your favorite book? Star Wars.
What is your favorite food? A yogurt stick and juice.
What is your favorite thing about school? That I get to be with you [pointing to Mom].
What is your favorite thing to do? Play with my baby doll and Legos.
How do you show your family you love them? By being nice.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A dad. Why? Because I don’t know why. I just do.
What are you thankful for? The TV.

What are you afraid of? Umm…Cookie Monster.
Who are your friends? Umm…Greyson, Eli, Caleb, and Jacob [he means himself].
What is important to you? Watching bowling on TV.
What is your favorite book? I like a bowling book.
What is your favorite food? Chocolate cookies.
What is your favorite thing about school? I play toys and slides and painting.
What is your favorite thing to do? Umm…I like to bowl. And watching bowling on TV.
How do you show your family you love them? Umm…I say, “More cookies, please.”
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want cookies.
What are you thankful for? Bowling!

Overheard

A few gems from Matt tonight while he was "styling" my hair.

1) "Mommy, you look FAMOUS!"

2) "I'm styling your hair behind your ears so you can hear better. You say "What?" too much."

3) When he was done, he asked if he could also put some lipstick on me. After he applied it, he said, "Wow, now Daddy will finally come home to a beautiful girl." Emphasis on "finally".

Matt paid us a nice compliment today. He said, "Home is a very happy place."

This was an actual conversation in the car yesterday. (This will only be funny to you if you know how obsessed Jake is with bowling.)

Jake: Hey, Matt!

Matt: Yeah, Jake?

Jake: Bowling.

Matt: What?

Jake: Bowling pins.

Matt: I don't think we have any bowling pins in the car, Jake.

Jake: No, I was thinking about bowling pins.

[While looking through the Thomas catalog together at lunch today...]

Matt: "I'm so glad you're here with me. Are you happy, too, Mommy?"
Mom: "Of course I'm happy! I'm glad you're here."

Mom: "Matt, you have a very big vocabulary for a boy who's not even three yet."
Matt: "Yes, I do have a big Cowboy Larry!"
